Joon Y. Lee- PATIENCE

Part 1
Any given stadium seating in a baseball game can make for a possible scripted space packed with interaction and excitement.  This stadium in particular is Dodger Stadium located in Los Angeles.  We are sitting near the middle rows at the left field pavilion.  This area is jam-packed with die-hard Dodger fans that do not cease to cheer on their home team.  With the extra intensity that comes with the rivalry and protecting their home turf, the crowds tend to get a little rowdy.  At times, baseball fans encounter incidents where they feel they have to take the law into their own hands, or bring on the help of the security to keep the peace.

Part 2
Baseball, known as an American tradition and legacy continues to serve the appetites of hungry Americans of all ages today.  People from all walks of life attend these ball games in aims to enjoy their time off from their busy daily lives, or lack there of.  Dodger Stadium went into construction in 1959 with the cost of $23 million and opened its doors on April 10, 1962.  The lead architect for this grandiose stadium was Emil Praeger and the stadium’s capacity is at an impressive 56,000 people.  When including standing fans, it is capable of fitting 57,099, which is the largest in baseball today.  Dodger Stadium is located in the Los Angeles community of Chavez Ravine in Sulfur Canyon, as it overlooks downtown Los Angeles and provides views of the city to the south, the green tree lined hills of Elysian Park to the north and east, and the San Gabriel Mountains beyond the outfield pavilions.  It is the third oldest ballpark in Major League Baseball behind Fenway Park in Boston and Wrigley Field in Chicago.  As it is such a dynamic park filled with glamour and celebrities of Hollywood, there also exist the natural sides of the citizens of Los Angeles County.  When people from all walks of life come to enjoy a time of relaxation and competition, they are often caught in the middle of an argument or disagreement in the bleachers, as well as in all neighboring parts of the baseball stadium.   Some choose to get involved and help alleviate the problem, as others decide to distance themselves from any negativity and wait until security comes and resolves the potentially violent altercations.  It all comes with being out in the open, although enclosed in a stadium setting.  Usually, wearing the opposite team’s uniform will not get you in trouble, but occasionally, there are some immature baseball fans that start to verbally or physically attack these fans of the opposing team and one thing may lead to another.  Sadly, it has just become a “part” of the game.

Part 3
I.  Shane, a San Francisco native, is visiting his two kids, Monica and Tyler, and ex-wife in Los Angeles as they have relocated.  Shane picks up Monica and Tyler to take them to their first baseball game.  Monica and Tyler are in elementary school and are on summer vacation.  There is a 1 p.m. day game at Dodger Stadium as they host the San Francisco Giants, Shane’s favorite team.  He is dressed up in a Giants’ uniform jersey, but he buys Monica and Tyler Dodger’s t-shirts since they will be growing up in Los Angeles with their new stepfather.  He wants to share this special moment with his young children, just as his father had with him and his siblings in the past.  He hopes that they would remember this day as they grow up many hours away from him.  He buys his children Dodger Dogs and drinks before heading toward their seats in left pavilion.  They eventually find their seats and the game starts.  Everything goes well as the game reaches the 7th inning.  The crowds are taking part in “the wave,”  as the Dodgers are up at bat and the game is tied at 4.   There were no problems the whole game, but during the second round of waves around the whole stadium, restless fans started to throw peanuts and popcorn, drinks, boxes, and whatever else they could get their hands on as they got up to take part in “the wave.”  As the Dodgers struck out on their last out, the wave died out and certain fans that got hit by these particles started to look behind them assuming that they were thrown by the people sitting behind them.  One Dodger fan looks straight at Shane and starts to curse at him.  Being only 4 rows behind, Shane could totally sense that these rude slurs were toward him.  The man just decided to target Shane for having the rival team’s jersey on and starts to throw peanuts at him.  Shane wants to ignore him, but decides to shout to him that he is with his young children and to not make a scene.  The other man screams “I don’t give a f**k,” and keeps instigating a confrontation with Shane.  As some fans between them start to get uncomfortable, others root them on in hopes of seeing a fight.  Shane grabs his two children and start heading toward the stairs to let the situation die down and also to go for a bathroom break.  The angry Dodger fan sees Shane starting to walk toward the exit and he decides to go after him.  As he lunges toward Shane and his two children and intentions of swinging at Shane’s head, a security guard steps in and tackles the fan to the floor and backup arrives.  They subdue him and start to escort him out of the park.

II.  Angela, Kevin, and Preston are cousins who are hard-core baseball fans.  Angela and Kevin grew up watching the Dodgers and Preston the Giants.  All three of them are sporting their team jerseys as well.  Although they are supporting opposing teams, they are family and are just here to have a great time.  They walk toward the food line to grab some food and beers before the start of the 5th inning.  As they are in line, a drunken man standing on the side keeps staring at Angela and starts giving her dirty looks.  He goes far enough to even whistle at her whenever she moves up in the line.  Preston notices this and decides to intervene.  He shouts, “What is your problem,” and moves his position to stand in between his cousin and the perverted man.  Angela tells Preston, that it’s okay and to just let the man be and that they will be getting their food soon and be on their way anyway.  Shane agrees and calms down.  As they are about to order the food, the drunken man has made his way toward the three teenagers and lays a hand on Angela’s buttocks.  Angela shrieks and turns around appalled.  Kevin swings at the man and his fist catches the man clean on his lower jaw.  The man stumbles for a second but gets back up and tackles Kevin onto the floor.  Everyone around is screaming and a crowd circles them.  Preston kicks the man on his stomach and swings heavily on the back of his head.  The drunken man’s friends come out from the bathroom and joins in after realizing what is going on.  A rumble breaks out and Angela runs to get extra help.  She soon returns with police officers and the situation is subdued.

III.  Sally is at the Dodger game with her son Mark and her two grandchildren, Andy and Michelle.  Sally and Mark have been coming to the stadium for the last twenty years and have had many great memories here.  Now it is time to pass the legacy to the two grandchildren, 7 year-old twins.  They pull in to the parking lot and drive up as close to the stadium as possible.  They are there a little bit early, so there are still ample spots.  Mark parks his minivan and helps his two children out of the car.  As they slowly start walking toward the top deck entrance, a group of teenage delinquents with their shaved heads and gang attire approach the same path towards the entrance in an obnoxiously loud manner.  They are smoking marijuana openly and passing it around amongst themselves.  Sally looks over her shoulder and in dismay says, “What would your parents say if they saw you kids acting this way?”  One of the kids responds, “Mind your own business you old lady!  My moms would be here smoking this with me!  Who the fu** are you?  You ain’t my mom!”  And his friends start laughing and joining in screaming, “Stupid bitch! Old ass whore!”  At this time Mark tries to direct his elderly mother to the opposite direction and holds his children up by his arms.  Sally yells once again “How dare you!  You kids have to be ashamed of yourselves!”  One of the kids that had had smoked meth in the car before getting out was totally blown out of his head and decides to chuck a soda can directly towards Sally and it hits her exactly on the right side of her head.  She falls slowly to the ground and Mark is in shock.  He puts down his two children and aids his mother to make sure she is not unconscious.  He then starts to dash toward the teenager who had thrown the can, and as he starts to run toward him, one of the kid’s friend pulls out a small pistol and starts firing at Mark.  He gets hit on the chest and a few rounds hits him on the left leg.  Mark drops on the floor and his kids start to cry as both their father and grandmother lay on the floor helplessly.  The group of teenagers starts to run away and gets back into their car to escape.   Bystanders who witnessed this horrific event are on their phone dialing the authorities and a couple runs toward Mark and Sally to see if they are okay.  The children are stunned and scared as blood starts to stream out of Marks chest and soak up his shirt.  Later, the teens in the getaway car are apprehended after a high-speed pursuit on the interstate 5.  Mark is hospitalized but survives and his family presses charges.
